This has got to be one of the worst books I ever read. Maybe it…
Carry the Ocean is a new novel by Heidi Cullinan and is part 1 in the new Roosevelt series. I was really looking forward to reading this one actually, being that it was hyped up so much on Facebook and Twitter. And what do I think now that I finally read it? All I can say is that I really really recommend this book to everyone. If there is only 1 book in your life to read, it is this one.
I wasn’t even half way through the book and it already made me cry twice, it was just that good.
Jeremey Samson is a young boy and regularly has panick attacks and is the victim of clinical depression. However, his parents don’t believe him and are just telling him to be better and suck it up. His mental state is going down hill fast. But then he meets Emmet Washington, a young autistic boy that lives right behind him. Emmet is smart, funny and in Jeremey’s eyes very handsome. But because of his autism he has several problems of his own to deal with.
When Jeremeys depression reaches a dramatic climax, Emmet is the guy who is always there for him and teaches him to trust again and that he is good enough to be loved. Both boys together form a very strong team and they will learn to fight their battles together. They move in together at The Roosevelt, an assisted living facility to help them deal with every day life.
I don’t even know how to begin describing this book, you just have to find out for yourself. One very small point of criticism though, there are so many medical terms in this book that sometimes I had to think real hard to understand them. But that is really all, otherwise this book is perfect.
I for one am very very much looking forward to the second part in the series. And I will make sure to follow whatever Heidi Cullinan does in the future.
