I Got You

I Got You is the latest novel by Jamie Lake and is all about finding love in what might be considered a forbidden place. After all, when you fall in love with your stepbrother that might be considered wrong by some people.

One night when Jake is out with a friend, he is gay bashed and left for dead on the side of the road. Waking up in the hospital he vows to never let that happen again. But what can he do to defend himself against people that mean him harm? So when his sister suggests taking self defense lessons, he looks into it and accepts. He goes out and finds MMA trainer Benjamin who is willing to train him even if he has no money at all.

The more time they spend together, the more they learn about each other and the way they feel about each other. Slowly they are falling in love and opening up their hearts to each other.

But what Benjamin doesn’t know is that Jake and he are stepbrothers, sharing the same father. Jakes sister knows that Jake is gay, but he never told their father in fear of rejection. So what happens when Benjamin learns the truth about him and Jake?

However there are some things about the story that really bug me. If Benjamin is supposed to be this tough MMA fighter why does he work and live in the worst places of all. His gym is crap, but his house isn’t much better. He has a son by his ex wife, but she is just a plain bitch and nothing else. There should be so much more in that story I feel.

And Jake starts of as a non trained slightly overweight person, but in a matter of weeks he turns into some muscular stud. I don’t know what training he is on, but I want it to. It must be the most fantastic program ever.

So all in all, a nice read, but the story could use some serious editing and should be a whole lot longer to close off all the open ends.
