The date for Rainbow Book Fair 2016 has been announced. The 2015 edition was in…
Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda is one of those books no one has ever heard about, but all of a sudden the book is a big hit and it seems the whole world is reading it at the same time. It was give to me by a friend and since I am somewhat of a fan of the YA genre I read it. But quite frankly I don’t get the whole wow thing….
Simon Spier is 16 years old and gay, although he prefers to hide that last fact. The only other person in the world who knows about it is Blue, the pen name for the boy he has been e-mailing for quite a while now. He has no idea who the boy is but he has confessed quite a lot in those e-mails. So when they fall in to the wrong hands trouble might be around the corner.
Martin knows about the mails Simon has been sending and is now blackmailing him into playing his wing man or else…. And worse of all, Blue’s privacy will also be compromised.
Simon has no idea what to do now. His contact with Blue is getting more and more flirty and he is pushing for them to finally meet in real life. On the other hand Simon might have to out himself to his friends and family before someone else does it. But he is not sure how to do it or when to do it. And what will others think when he finally does come out of the closet?
This book has been praised up and down in every newspaper, magazine and internet site available but I just don’t get it. It is not a bad story, but it certainly isn’t the best story I ever read. The writing is a little bad here and there and sometimes Simon is just plain annoying and I was screaming “Just get it over with” And of course when the identity of Blue is finally revealed, you could have seen that one coming a mile away.
